Molly Strout is from Boston, Massachusetts and uses she/her pronouns. She is a sophomore double majoring in Management EIT and Real Estate.
Molly Strout will be interning for UDR in the summer of 2023.
We asked Molly to share both her internship and Pamplin experiences with us.
How did you find your internship? What is your title and what will you do for them?
I found UDR through Virtual Business Horizons back in January. My title is “Intern- Property” and I will be working to efficiently operate various UDR communities in the Boston area. This includes leasing, resident services, and ensuring compliance with laws and policies. Additionally, I will handle administrative tasks such as accounting and financial reporting, processing invoices, and managing resident accounts.
What do you think will be your favorite part about the internship?
During my time with UDR, I am most excited about being able to learn about things we cannot learn in a classroom. Additionally, I am eager to take on challenging tasks and projects that will allow me to develop new skills and expand my knowledge. I look forward to building meaningful connections and networking with other professionals in the industry for future career growth.
How was the recruitment process?
The recruitment process at UDR was very easy to navigate. After virtual business horizons earlier this year, I connected with the recruiter, and we stayed in contact throughout the spring. She gave me all the necessary information, and even connected me with someone in the Boston office, who later conducted my interview. The interview process was very straightforward, as I was able to showcase my talents and personality while also gaining more insight into the company.
What do you want to do after graduation?
After graduation, I hope to move back to Boston and pursue a career in commercial real estate. Specifically, I am interested in commercial development and property management. I am confident that my degree in both Management EIT and Real Estate alongside my internship with UDR will provide me with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed.
What advice would you give to an incoming Pamplin freshman?
My biggest piece of advice to incoming Pamplin freshman is to prioritize networking. It is so crucial for professors, employers, and recruiters to be able to put a name to the face. Establishing positive relationships early on will be immensely beneficial to your success in the long run. Put in the effort to attend events, connect with alumni and recruiters, build your personal brand, and perfect your LinkedIn! Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and engage in conversation. Remember that the connections you make now can open many doors for internships, job opportunities, and more.
What is your favorite part about being a management and or Pamplin student?
As a Pamplin student, I greatly appreciate the abundant support and networking opportunities available to me. In just two years, I have received so much support, which has helped me tremendously in expanding my network. The faculty members at Pamplin have been instrumental in my growth as a professional, with their unwavering availability and constant encouragement. Pamplin is constantly offering opportunities for students that guarantee success and job placement. It is reassuring to know that my professors and advisors are always rooting for my success and are willing to go above and beyond to ensure I achieve my goals.
