Brian Holahan is from Richmond, Virginia and uses he/his pronouns. He is a junior double majoring in Business Information Technology (OSM) and Management Consulting and Analytics.

Brian will intern for KPMG in the summer of 2023.

We asked Brian to share both his internship and Pamplin experiences with us.

How did you find your internship? What is your title and what will you do for them?

I found my internship at KPMG through connections that I've made in my business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, and my investment group, COINS. I will be joining them as a CIO Advisory intern in their Atlanta Ignition office. This is within their Management Consulting division where I will be advising clients as to what software and technologies most aptly suit their needs.

What do you think will be your favorite part of the internship?

I think that I will enjoy interacting with clients the most. At my past internship, I felt as though I did not have many chances to truly interact with the people that my output was helping. From what I have heard of the internship experience, it is going to be highly client facing which is something that I believe I will enjoy and excel in.

What type of student would you recommend to apply to this internship and why?

I would recommend a student to apply to this internship if they are highly driven and happy to be communicating amongst people. If a student is interested in any sort of consulting or IT role, then I would highly recommend this internship. If any student is interested in this, then they can certainly reach out to me, and I will provide further details!

What do you want to do after graduation?

After graduation, I want to work for a consulting company or technology firm. I would hope that I would feel passionately about the projects that I will eventually be working on, and hopefully my internship at KPMG will give me insight as to how I want to shape my career.

What advice would you give to an incoming Pamplin freshman?

The most impactful piece of advice that I could share would be to GET INVOLVED. The connections that you make within Pamplin will serve you extremely well. The friends I have made and the groups I have joined have been helpful within my career, academically, and have been great social outlets. I am very thankful for Pamplin recruiting some of the most highly motivated individuals, and I am also grateful that those connections have blossomed into a lifelong friendship.

What is your favorite part about being a management and or Pamplin student?

Since I talked about Pamplin in the last question, I would really like to highlight my appreciation for the school of management at Virginia Tech. Toward the end of my sophomore year, I decided that I wanted to add a Management major alongside my BIT major. Since beginning my high level management courses, I have been more than pleasantly surprised by the education I have received from this department. With the immersion of courses such as Organization Behavior, Managerial Analytics, and Strategy Competition Analysis, these classes have provided an extremely broad level of education where I have acquired countless knowledge and skills that I will use in my future.

If any, what organizations are you in and what do you enjoy about them?

I am in a variety of different organizations throughout Virginia Tech. Firstly, my business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. I am extremely grateful for this group of people, because they are a group of highly driven, motivated people who are always happy to help. The second organization that has been extremely impactful was Commodity Investing by Students (COINS). I enjoy this group because it is an area of study in which I do not learn through my academic education. This group has encouraged me to explore countless new studies and it has pushed my understanding of finance, economics, and commodities to an extremely high level. Finally, I play on the Virginia Tech Men's Club Volleyball Team which is a great way to stay active with a great group of teammates.
