Mahad Zulfiqar is from Reston, Virginia and uses he/his pronouns. He is a junior pursuing a degree in Human Resources Management.

Mahad will be interning for Summit Human Capital in the summer of 2023.

We asked Mahad to share both his internship and Pamplin experiences with us.

How did you find your internship? What is your title and what will you do for them?

I found my internship through a friend actually, and then met the recruiters at the Business Horizon Career fair where  I got the chance to learn more about them! My title is Associate Intern of Government Services, and I will be doing a lot of learning, along with potential lead/ list building for recruiting clients to be hired by government organizations and create connections for Summit. Additionally, I will be reaching to fire leads and previous clients to maintain our relationship with them.

What do you think will be your favorite part about the internship?

I think my favorite part about the internship will be the professional feel, as well as obtaining the skills and experiences that come from working with a small company. Working with younger more aspiration-filled people will benefit me in absorbing the drive to achieve excellence in whatever I do. I also will get the opportunity to learn a lot more than someone doing an internship with a bigger company, which I am super excited for.

What type of student would you recommend to apply to this internship and why?

Since I don’t know much about the internship yet, I would recommend a student that is motivated to assist people in landing the right place that they will love to work at in the federal field. Someone who is eager to build relationships and is comfortable with communicating with many different people is another characteristic I’d recommend for this internship.

What do you want to do after graduation?

After graduation I want to begin working and receive the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree facilitated by my place of employment and be somewhere within the HR department.

What advice would you give to an incoming Pamplin freshman?

For an incoming Pamplin freshman, my advice would be to work hard and explore! There are so many different paths you can take I believe it is important to find something you are passionate about or that you excel in and focus on that. While making sure you also create new relationships and enjoy your time at college!

What is your favorite part about being a management and or Pamplin student?

My favorite part about being a Pamplin student is the fraternity and people within this school, don’t get me wrong I do love learning about the management aspect within business, but the professors and students I have met in this school have been very special and helpful to me!

If any, what organizations are you in and what do you enjoy about them?

I am part of the general body in a few organizations including, MSA, Amv, and AmC and the thing I love most about them is the culture/ diversity. Each one of them bring a new flavor of enjoyment while being very inclusive. They made me feel welcomed the moment I first attended an event. It also has brought about companionship/ friendships that I will hopefully maintain for life, great events and even better people!
