The Department of Management would like to highlight faculty member Andy Travers.

Andy Travers is an adjunct professor within the Management Department and teaches courses such as Ethical Leadership, Strategic Management, and Foundations of Business. He received his undergraduate degree from Central Missouri State University and holds an MBA from the University of Missouri – Columbia. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Andy taught at a college in Northern California but went on to gain work experience that he could share with his students before continuing to teach. Andy began his career at Ralph Lauren and later moved to Orvis where he became the Director of Operations.  Andy went on to become the Director of Operations and later Director of Ethics and Compliance at US Foods. Andy also has a certification in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and has an interest in sustainable business. He was the project manager for the RVWC solar array as well as their cloud-based platform, helping to drive more data-based decision making.

Andy’s favorite part about his job is working with students. He loves sharing his experiences with students and giving back to his Virginia Tech community. In addition to his Adjunct course load Andy has also developed two independent study courses to help explore the benefits of Junior Achievement Non-Profit work and its impact in developing youth in the areas of workplace readiness, financial acumen, and entrepreneurial skills. Andy says he came to Virginia Tech due to all the great experiences his friends and family had here, including his daughter, and says it’s been wonderful working for the Management Department so far.

In his free time, Andy likes to spend time with his wife and two kids. He enjoys bike rides (road or mountain) and playing frisbee golf. He is an active member of his church and likes to go to Bloom Restaurant & Wine Bar in Roanoke.

Andy’s advice to incoming Pamplin freshman would be to “Learn and explore while at Virginia Tech. Go out and meet new people, don’t just spend your time playing video games.”
