The Department of Management would like to highlight faculty member Eli Jamison.

Dr. Jamison is an Assistant Professor of Practice within the department of Management. She received her undergraduate from James Madison University in Cultural Anthropology and her MBA from Vanderbilt University with a concentration in Human Resource Management and Organization Behavior. After graduation, Dr. Jamison worked in the consulting field and later moved to Norfolk, Virginia where she also taught an adjunct statistics course. Dr. Jamison later became the Director of the Leadership Development Center and Director of the MBA program at Radford University. While at RU, she worked on regional business development, continued her independent consulting work, and grew the MBA program. In 2010, Dr. Jamison decided she needed to revisit her educational grounding in business by learning more about the potential of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), so she decided to come to Virginia Tech to do her PhD in the ASPECT program with a concentration in social & political thought. While at VT, she earned her Women & Gender Studies Graduate certificate and served as a GTA in the History department. After receiving her PhD, she decided to stay with Virginia Tech as an instructor and has taught across 3 different colleges and 5 different departments before joining Pamplin full-time in 2019. She resides in Roanoke, VA where she is Vice Chair of the Roanoke City School Board.

When asked why Dr. Jamison became a professor, she said she loved the process of thinking, talking, and trying to understand how the world works that occurs in the college environment. She said she always knew she wanted to be on a college campus but didn’t imagine being a professor until the opportunity arose and her career life balance made it possible. Dr. Jamison chose Virginia Tech because it allowed her to be close to family while pursuing her career and educational goals, and she loves it here. Dr. Jamison’s favorite part about her job is the students. She loves being challenged and learning from her students. Dr. Jamison is currently researching the broad field of newcomer immigrants with the employee and labor markets as well as inclusive pedagogical practices. She is interested in how immigration policies impact the work force and how they intersect with broader issues of labor justice.

Outside of work, Dr. Jamison loves to hike, spend time outside with family including her dogs and cats, especially on the banks of the New River. She also loves to kayak, read, and go outdoors. Dr. Jamison is an avid reader and committed to her community.

Dr. Jamison’s advice to incoming Pamplin freshmen would be to “Take lots of classes. Take a variety of different classes and broaden your horizons. Find new interests and hobbies. Learn what you like and what you don’t like.”
