What is SHRM?

Society for Human Resource Management is the largest HR association with nearly 340,000 members in 180 countries. SHRM is the foremost expert, researcher, advocate, and thought leader on issues and innovations impacting today’s evolving workplaces.

With 300,000+ HR and business executive members in 165 countries, SHRM impacts the lives of more than 115 million workers and families globally.

The purpose of SHRM is to elevate the HR profession and the Virginia Tech Chapter is working to provide programs, opportunities and professional development to meet that purpose.

SHRM at VT

SHRM at Virginia Tech is a professional business organization that helps its members become familiar with the human resources industry before they enter the field to be better prepared. We meet with professionals in the area who provide pointers and genuine conversations about their personal ongoing experiences. We also host HR panels, recruitment events, resume reviews, interview workshops, and socials to better know our members.

In December 2019, several students from various majors within the Pamplin College of Business met to confirm the slate of officers for the Virginia Tech Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM).

2024-2025 Officers

Human assets are the decisive factor for success and the ultimate differentiator for gaining competitive advantages,” stated Dirk Buegel, Assistant Professor of Practice and  former Faculty Advisor for the SHRM VT Chapter. “I am excited and very happy that we have reinvigorated the VT SHRM Chapter that covers this exact success-critical topic through a variety of activities, with a new and excellent leadership team, and committed and engaged students. I encourage and invite you to invest in your employability and take ownership of your own development with us and learn more about managing yourself, managing others and driving positive change with and through people. We are open to business and we would love to join us on our continued journey to deliver added value to students in a diverse and fun team."
