The Department of Management would like to highlight faculty member Chien-Chi Tseng.

Dr. Chien-Chi Tseng is a Collegiate Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship. He has served as a professor and researcher of Entrepreneurship for over twenty-five years and received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and Postdoc from the University of Florida. Dr. Tseng won the 2018 International Council for Small Business Global Entrepreneurship Award, the best paper award at the 2014 United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and was selected as the Featured Diversity Scholar by the National Center for Institutional Diversity at the University of Michigan in 2017.

Dr. Tseng came to the United States to pursue his dream of becoming an entrepreneurship teacher and making contributions in the world. He wanted to make the most significant impact in entrepreneurship and innovation and found that helping students have the best starts to their career is one of the most impactful things he can do. In Taiwan, Dr. Tseng managed the first Taiwanese campus innovation and entrepreneurship incubator at National Taiwan University. He helped support more than 100 developing businesses and assisted 30 other Taiwanese universities in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Dr. Tseng came to Virginia Tech to pursue his goal of contributing to society and entrepreneurship. He states that Virginia Tech has an outstanding environment to learn entrepreneurship with outstanding students and excellent faculty. His favorite part about his job is interacting with students and outstanding faculties here at Virginia Tech. Dr. Tseng conducts research on the broad topic of entrepreneurship and innovation. He incorporated interdisciplinary ideas, implications of business incubators and accelerators, entrepreneurship and innovation, social change and corporate entrepreneurship, organizational learning, global entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability into his research. He has published several refereed articles and presented a few numbers of refereed proceedings at highly regarded national and international conferences.

Dr. Tseng likes to exercise every day and encourages everyone to stay healthy and take care of themselves. He states that health is one of the most important things. He loves doing outdoor activities such as hiking with his wife and holds an annual State Park pass. Dr. Tseng's twin sons both graduated from the University of Chicago with double majors undergraduate and master’s degrees in four years and published journals while in high school. He likes to utilize his sons’ experiences as an example of success for his students.

Dr. Tseng’s advice to incoming Pamplin freshman is “3 recommendations: Number 1, Work hard and work smart. Surround yourself with good people and find a good mentor. Number 2, Stay healthy, exercise, eat healthy, and take care of yourself. Number 3, Pursue your dreams and never give up!”
