Alan Fabian

Adjunct Faculty

Alan is a passionate leader with a diverse background who works with people to create high-performing systems of excellence. He has experience with large hospitals that are not just centers for medical treatment; they are vital community assets that go beyond providing care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. They significantly contribute to local economies by being major employers and a source of billions of dollars in economic activity.

Alan worked for HCA Healthcare from 1995 to 2024, a total of nearly 29 years. Most recently, Alan was the Market President for HCA LewisGale Regional Health System, which is a four-hospital system in Southwest Virginia with 1,003 beds. In this role, he acted as the chief architect and conductor of a complex, life-saving enterprise. During the same period, he also served as the CEO of HCA LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, VA, a 506-bed hospital. His key responsibilities there included opening a level II trauma center, strategic direction, patient safety, clinical excellence, financial performance, and leadership development.

Prior to this, he was the CEO of HCA LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg, VA. While in this role, he built a leadership team to create a culture focused on people, team development, and physician recruitment. Under his leadership, the hospital was recognized as the 2020 Business of the Year and 2021 Best Place to Work. He was also recognized as the 2021 Distinguished Business Leader of the Year as CEO.

Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of HCA Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia, LA. He also held the positions of Chief Operating Officer for HCA Regional Medical Center of Acadiana and Chief Information Officer for HCA Information Technology & Services, Mid-America Division.

Alan earned a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University in 2001 and a BSBA in Computer Information Systems from Western New England University in 1989.

Alan is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. This is the highest credential that healthcare leaders can earn to demonstrate their expertise, experience, and commitment to lifelong learning and professional development in the field of healthcare management.
