Robert Thomas Gordon

Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for Mount Rogers Community Services

Bob Gordon, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, CBP, CCP, serves in dual professional roles, combining his passion for leadership and organizational development with two decades of expertise in Human Resources. He is a full-time Administrative and Professional Faculty member at Radford University (Go Highlanders!) where he serves as Director of Talent Management and Compensation (a.k.a., Director of Talent) and also works as the pro re nata Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for Mount Rogers Community Services, a 968-employee behavioral healthcare not-for-profit organization.

With over 20 years of comprehensive HR management and labor relations experience, Bob is highly skilled in designing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and operations that drive organizational growth, employee engagement, and long-term resiliency.

Bob holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management (Summa Cum Laude) from Radford University and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and Labor/Employee Relations from Virginia Tech, where he was named as a Pamplin Scholar. He is also a graduate of the Ohio State Leadership Program.

He has earned multiple top-tier HR certifications, including:

  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)
  • SHRM—Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)
  • Certified Benefits Professional (CBP)
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)

Bob’s career also includes significant corporate HR leadership roles such as:

  • Manager of U.S. HR Policies, Processes, and Employment Practices at Lowe’s Companies, Inc.
  • Manager of Executive Compensation and Benefits at American Electric Power (AEP)
  • Manager of Human Resources Administrative Services at AEP, where he led an HR Service Center supporting 11 states and 35,000 lives.

Beyond his higher education, not-for-profit, and corporate leadership roles, Bob is deeply committed to his community. He serves as a trustee of Byrnes Chapel UMC, is a proud member of the Mechanicsburg Ruritan Club, and previously served as Chairperson of the Virginia Association of Community Service Boards’ Human Resources Council.

Bob maintains a strong connection to Virginia Tech (Let Go Hokies!), where he is an active supporter and member of the Hokie Club, the Pylon Society, the Legacy Society, and serves on the Management Advisory Board for the Pamplin College of Business.
