In addition to Don’s role as an Adjunct Professor in the Pamplin College of Business, Don currently serves as the CFO/COO of Challenger Inc, a private equity backed global leader in sales training, technology, and consulting.
Don has a 30+ year career spanning numerous executive level accounting, operating and finance roles from mid-sized private equity backed organizations to multibillion-dollar global public companies across media, information technology, software, and education industries. Don was the CFO/COO of Envision, a private equity backed education company providing experiential learning and leadership programs for elementary to high school aged students. Over a four plus year period the business experienced a strategic and financial turnaround moving from a loss position to profitability, growing revenue and improving the margins each year resulting in a successful investor exit in 2018. Don also served as Vice President of Finance Operations, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer at Nii Holdings a $6 billion, NASDAQ listed, seller of the Nextel branded mobile phones across Latin America. Prior to that his career included 16 years in senior leadership and executive roles at AOL where during his tenure the business grew from $1 billion to $10 billion in revenue and became a leader in internet and media services. Don’s career includes extensive experience in global mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic transactions. Don began his career at EY where he became a CPA. Don holds a B.S. in Accounting from Virginia Tech (1990) and an M.B.A. from Georgetown University (2012).
