Reed B. Kennedy is an Associate Professor of Management Practice in the Management Department, where he teaches Management Consulting, Business Policy and Strategy, and Introduction to Business. He began his career as a naval officer, serving as the missile officer on a ship for 3 years, and for 2 years taught naval professional courses at the U. S. Naval Academy. His primary career has been in healthcare administration, where he served in senior executive roles in various hospitals for over 20 years, including 3 years in a mission hospital in Colombia, South America. He worked for 5 years as a business consultant for the Small Business Development Center for the New River Valley at Radford University. As a business owner, he oversaw the operations of an assisted living facility for the mentally handicapped in Roanoke. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy, a Masters of Healthcare Administration from Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Masters in Public Health and a Graduate Certificate in Global Planning and International Development from Virginia Tech. At Virginia Tech he serves as the Faculty Advisor for The Consulting Club, Faculty Advisor for Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity, and has received a number of awards for teaching excellence and for international programs, having led numerous study abroad programs. His community service includes serving as past President of the Board of Directors for the Community Foundation of the New River Valley, where he also chaired the Nominating and Investment Committees, President and Chair of the Board of LinkAcross, a nonprofit that does healthcare and business development in Macedonia,  Board Member for the non-profit Rural Asia Initiative, was President and held other officer positions of his Rotary Club, is the U.S. Naval Academy Information Officer for the region, and is an active member in his local church.
